Lhasa to Everest Base Camp is one of the most popular trips around Asia. You can travel the beautiful Himalayas of Tibet and go around the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest. The terrain land of Tibet will amaze you with its fascinating views.

You will travel through gorgeous alpine lakes, glaciers, nomadic regions, Buddhist temples, and the Tibetan capital city of Lhasa. Besides, you will see other highest-ranked peaks in the world.

Itinerary

1 Arrival at Lhasa

Once you arrive in Lhasa, you will be greeted by an English-speaking guide. There will be another Tibetian driver who will take you to your hotel. You can relax for the day as you might be tired from all the travel. 

2 Lhasa Sightseeing; Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street

Today, you will explore the beautiful city of Tibet and go around its market to buy souvenirs. First, you will visit the Jokhang Temple, which is the primary monastery of Tibet. Then, you will see the market at Barkhor Street. 

There’s also a monastery called Sera Monastery, where you will go to see the monk’s conflicts traditionally. 

3 Lhasa Sightseeing; Potala Palace

On the third day, we will take you around other unique places in Lhasa. The first stop is the Potala Palace, the Dalai Lama’s winter palace, as you might be aware, constructed in the 17th century by the fifth Dalai Lama. 

Next, we will visit the Dalai Lama’s summer palace, built in the 18th century by the seventh Dalai Lama, Norbulinka. With this, our exploration day in Lhasa is over.

 

4 Lhasa to Gyantse Drive through Yamdrok Lake

Today, we will come across many renowned places in Tibet. However, first, we will drive 290 kilometers toward Gyantse. The highlights of this day are Yamdrok-Tso Lake, Kampa-la (5050 m) and Karo-la Pass (5045 m), and Mount Nojin Kangtsen Glacier on our route.

Once we arrive at Gyantse, we still have many places to explore. The seven-story Kubum Stupa and Pelkor Chode Monastery are famous religious sites. Moreover, we will visit the  Gyantse Dzong fort, notable for the British military siege of 1903 led by Colonel Younghusband.

5 Gyantse to New Tingri Drive through Shigatse

Yet again, we will explore numerous notable places in Tibet. On our way to New Tingri, we will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse to see the future Buddha’s golden shrine. Here you can visit the Panchen Lama, the second-highest Tibetan Buddhist religious hierarchy. 

We also head to Shigatse Market and see the Shigatse Dzong fort. Once we leave Shigatse, we will drive to Shegar through Tsou-la Pass (4500m) and Gyatso-la Pass (5220m). Finally, you can see your first views of Mt. Everest if the weather is clear. We arrive in New Tingri in the evening and stay overnight. 

6 Everest Base Camp and Drive to Rongbuk Monastery

Finally, we will reach our destination today. We will move towards Everest Base Camp and observe many spectacular views of mountain ranges. You can see the beautiful scenery of the top-ranked highest peaks in the world, Mt. Lhotse (8516m), Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Cho-Oyo (8201m), and Mt. Makalu (8463m). 

Once we explore around EBC, we will start our returning journey. Our trail back is through Rongbuk Monastery. We will drive to Rongbuk Monastery and stay overnight.

7 Rongbuk Monastery to Shigatse Drive

We can still see the early sunrise over Mt. Everest from Rongbuk Monastery. So, after the morning, we will have breakfast and drive back to Shigatse. Once we get there, you see many vistas of the Tibetian Plateau. 

8 Shigatse to Lhasa Drive

Today, we will drive back to the beautiful city of Tibet, Lhasa. The distance is around 280 kilometers from Shigatse to Lhasa. Our trail goes through the Northern Route and the Yarlung Tsangpo River. 

9 Departure from Lhasa

On the last day, you will be returning home. We will drop you at the airport or the railway station according to your scheduled time. You will have a lot of beautiful memories and souvenirs to take home.
